REDWOOD RAPIER CAMP

June 25 - 30, 2006, Arcata, CA

Martinez Academy of Arms and the Humboldt State University Fencing Club are proud to announce that registration for the fourth annual Redwood Rapier Camp is now open. The world's only week-long rapier fencing camp is held amongst the Victorian architecture of the little town of Arcata situated in the redwood forests of Northern California.

The Redwood Rapier Camp continues its mission to offer to those with no previous rapier fencing experience the best introduction to the art. It also continues to provide the experienced rapier fencer the opportunity to hone their skills and improve their understanding of either the Italian or Spanish rapier fencing systems of 17th century. No experienced practitioner or instructor of rapier fencing can afford to miss this unique training opportunity.

From June 25th through June 30th, Maestri Ramon Martinez and Jeannette Acosta- Martinez will teach daily classes on the theory and practice of Italian and Spanish rapier fencing. Daily training will be augmented by evening lectures, discussions and question-and-answer sessions.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures on a number of topics related to rapier fencing, including:

The focus of this camp will be to teach all participants fundamental rapier skills in a safe and friendly learning environment.

New this year, we are pleased to offer students the opportunity to enroll for a special training session at the end of the week. On July 1, those students wishing to maximize their learning experience can enroll for an additional half-day class in which the Maestri will guide the students through specialized training to reinforce the core principles and techniques of rapier fencing. This will serves as a capstone for the week's training, and enhance the student's understanding of the systems of fencing that have been taught during the week. Each student will receive individualized attention, their progress will be critiqued and evaluated and guidance will be given on how to progress in their training.
